Edwards plays a lot of impassioned music here, and also recalls his wildly emotional 6 decades plus career, full of innovative discoveries, high times and devastating setbacks. At the lively World Premiere screening at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Edwards received a thunderous standing ovation. Variety compared it favorably to "Ken Burns' Jazz" calling it "a loving and shrewd evergreen", while the Minneapolis Star and Tribune rated it ***1/2 stars (out of four).
