THE LEGEND OF TEDDY EDWARDS (2001)
with Ernie Andrews, Dexter Gordon, Clora Bryant, Dan Morgenstern and Kirk Silsbee
Associate Producers Kirk Silsbee and Mark Cantor
Executive Producer Celia Zaentz
Produced and Directed by Don McGlynn

Best known for working with Charlie Parker, Benny Goodman, Dexter Gordon, Clifford Brown and Tom Waits, this pioneering tenor saxophonist is also a master balladeer, superb improvisor and accomplished composer/arranger. Edwards plays a lot of impassioned music here, and also recalls his wildly emotional 6 decades plus career, full of innovative discoveries, high times and devastating setbacks. At the lively World Premiere screening at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Edwards received a thunderous standing ovation. Variety compared it favorably to "Ken Burns' Jazz" calling it "a loving and shrewd evergreen", while the Minneapolis Star and Tribune rated it ***1/2 stars (out of four).

The home video Special Edition includes two extra music numbers and Edwards reciting an original poem.
