SOME PERSONAL HISTORY

One of the profound influences in my life when I was growing up in Colorado Springs was artist Herman Raymond. "Ray", as my brother Dayven and I called him, gave us a unique perspective about the trials and tribulations of an artistic life. Music, Literature, Religion, Philosophy, Politics, Sex, or any other subject, were all freely discussed in our home. There were many times when we, along with our late mother Shirley, burned the midnight oil: conversing, sometimes debating, but more importantly learning.

Listen to a brief excerpt from "An Elegy for Shirley" a piece I composed shortly after her passing.

Always present in the background of our comfortable little Bohemian pad were the sonorous strains of Coltrane, Miles, Ella or sometimes the works of Ravel, Bartok or Stravinsky. To be certain, an unusual but very "cool" childhood filled with a lot of excitement and challenging steps. I have had many conversations with my beautiful wife Gabi about my appreciation of the importance of those sturdy foundations. As a tribute to some of those memorable times, I offer up a few examples of literally thousands of pieces of art Herman Raymond gave to the world over his long life.
